Research Associate (Molecular Biology) – Full Time

Position Available: Research Associate (Microbiology) – Full Time

Location: Smartpark, University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus, Winnipeg, MB

Reports to: Chief Scientific Officer

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduction experiments in the area of molecular biology with special emphasis on protein expression, purification, and Enzymatic assays
  • Develop new antibiofilm product prototypes and related analytical method
  • Analysis of existing antibiofilm products and technologies
  • Prepares detailed oral or written summaries of results with interpretation for projects/ programs. Independently write laboratory methods, specific technical sections of internal, external reports, and scientific papers
  • Assisting with general laboratory maintenance and general duties
  • Accurate record creation/keeping
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in a laboratory environment

  • Experience supervising others (such as undergrad students)

Required Education and Experience:

  • M.Sc. Degree or B. Sc with relevant experience in molecular biology
  • Minimum 4 years experience in a research laboratory
  • Good knowledge and experience in gene/protein expression, expression systems, optimization & purification, chromatographic techniques, enzymatic assay development, DNA, RNA, protein analytical methods
  • Experience in analytical tests

Asset Qualifications and Experience:

  • Chemistry background with experience in formula development, performing or developing analytical assays
  • Knowledge of biosafety policies and procedures, familiar with the HPTR and implementation of regulations, WHIMIS and general lab safety programs
  • Experience in product stability testing
  • Experience in animal health is an asset
