Press Release for Manitoba Technology Accelerator

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – June 17, 2013 – Building on the most successful six months in the organization’s history, Biomedical Commercialization Canada Inc. (BCC) has chosen to re-brand the organization as the Manitoba Technology Accelerator. The Manitoba Technology Accelerator is working with over a dozen technology start-up companies ranging from idea stage to early revenue.

There were several factors which contributed to this name change said Marshall Ring, CEO of the Manitoba Technology Accelerator. “First, we have a great new space in the exchange district with an open environment. This is very similar to the layout of tech accelerators in California. Second, our blend of clients is much more than only medical. Although we have great medical device companies, we are also working with very exciting IT companies. Therefore, we felt we needed a name that better reflected our environment, our client base, and our service offering”.

The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is a tenant at 500-321 McDermot and many of their funded entrepreneurs are also located in the Manitoba Technology Accelerator. “This is such an exciting place of entrepreneurism; hopefully the name change will help start-ups know this really is the place they need to be” remarked Joelle Foster Director of Manitoba, Canadian Youth Business Foundation. Harry Ethans of the Manitoba Knights supports the name change: “Although our investments to date have been made into three medical device companies we are also reviewing some IT offerings in the Manitoba Technology Accelerator program. Our group hopes that the name change from BCC to Manitoba Technology Accelerator will result in more opportunities coming forward to us for investment”.
