News Release - St-Boniface among Canada’s top 10 research intensive hospitals.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For the 2nd year in a row, St-Boniface Hospital Research has made the list of top research-intensive hospitals in Canada, according to Research Infosource’s annual Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals list, which ranks Canadian hospitals on their success in attracting support for health research. St-Boniface Hospital Research was ranked 10th in the country and is the only western Canadian hospital to make the top 10 list.

“This is a significant accomplishment and even more impressive because we’ve now done it for two years in a row” says Dr. Grant Pierce, Executive Director of Research for St-Boniface Hospital. “Our researchers continue to attract a level of funding that reflects the incredibly high standards of research accomplishment here at the Centre”.

Research intensity is defined as dollars attracted per researcher. The Principal Investigators at St-Boniface Hospital Research attracted an average of $373,600 each for a total of $14,944,000.

“Recognition as one of the top ten research intensive hospitals in Canada is a testament to the contributions of St-Boniface Hospital researchers to the international body of scientific knowledge in health research,” says Dr. Michel Tétreault, President and CEO, St-Boniface Hospital. “Our researchers’ passion is generating much needed support and partnerships, fostering discoveries that will improve the health of our communities. We are very proud of this acknowledgement of St. Boniface Hospital’s research programs.”

“St-Boniface Hospital Foundation has always been proud of our Research Centre and the great work they deliver year in and year out. It’s always wonderful to receive third party recognition of the pioneering research at St-Boniface” says Chuck LaFleche, President & CEO, St-Boniface Hospital Foundation.

“We are proud of our faculty members who call St-Boniface as their research home and we congratulate St-Boniface Hospital for this recognition” says Dr. Digvir Jayas, Vice-President (Research and International) and Distinguished Professor at the University of Manitoba.

St-Boniface Hospital Research encompasses 3 medical research facilities on the campus of St-Boniface Hospital – the G. Campbell MacLean Building, the Dr. Andrei Sakharov MRI Centre, and the I.H. Asper Clinical Research Institute - and 4 research programs including the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, the Division of Neurodegenerative Disorders, the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine (CCARM), and Clinical Research.

Generously supported by the St-Boniface Hospital Foundation and affiliated with the University of Manitoba, the Centre has gained a world-wide reputation for excellence in medical research.
