NATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY CEO PRESENTING AT LOCAL LIFE SCIENCE GALA

Biotechnology Industry Organization’s James C. Greenwood to provide keynote speech at awards gala honouring local life science leaders and innovators.

WINNIPEG, MB - February 25, 2015 – On March 5, 2015, the Life Science Association of Manitoba (LSAM) will welcome keynote speaker James C. Greenwood, President and CEO of Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), to their upcoming Come and Grow With Us Awards Gala at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre.

“This event is an important opportunity to highlight Manitoba’s growing biotechnology sector,” said Greenwood. “I want to applaud LSAM for all of their hard work and contributions to our industry. Biotechnology is transforming the way we heal, fuel and feed the world. Today, in labs and in workplaces in Manitoba and across the globe, men and women are developing the types of game-changing biotechnology innovations that will revolutionize the way we treat and cure the most devastating and debilitating diseases; they are creating new energy alternatives that will help fuel our planet; and they are modernizing agriculture practices so that we can feed a growing global population. As more of these innovations come to market, they will not only provide enormous societal benefits, but they will serve as an economic engine for our economy and our communities.”

The Come and Grow With Us Awards Gala underlines the efforts of locally-grown global leaders who are dedicated to research and development in the life science sector. This year’s winners have developed emergency, life-saving therapeutics and products focused on optimizing health.

“This year, our local life science sector is thinking big in the realms of ideas and expansions,” said Tracey Maconachie, LSAM President. “Our theme, Come and Grow With Us, is inspired by the outstanding results from our 2015 Industry Survey. Our sector has spoken, and the optimism associated with new jobs, increased revenues and emerging technologies paints a bright future for Manitoba’s life science industry.”

Award winners have been announced in the following categories:

  • Life Science Company of the Year – Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc.
  • Life Science Early Stage Company of the Year – Exigence Technologies Inc.
