Irene Fakankun


GET TO KNOW IRENE...

Meet Irene Fakankun. She is a scientist, teacher, reviewer and an Adjunct Professor at Providence University College, Otterburne, University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba. 

Irene Fakankun was raised in Lagos, Nigeria. She obtained her BSc. in Biochemistry at Bells University of Technology, Nigeria. She worked briefly as a Quality control officer at a pharmaceutical company before taking on a Graduate assistantship position at Bells University.  She then proceeded to the University of Nottingham, UK, where she obtained an MRes. in Advanced Genomic and Proteomic Sciences.  

While at Nottingham, she developed an interest in bioenergy research and worked on the proteomics of Saccharomyces cerevisiae under stress conditions during the deconstruction of plant cell walls. Irene was involved in Bioenergy outreach programs that resulted in public awareness and increased funding for her department. In September 2015, she entered the Biosystems Engineering graduate program at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg.  

Irene is a published scientist, reviewer, teacher and an Adjunct Professor at Providence University College, Otterburne, University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba.
