February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and March 8 is the International Women’s Day! In celebration of this day, and as part of the ongoing conversation about amplifying diversity, equality and inclusion, Bioscience Association Manitoba (BAM) has asked women-identified researchers, scientists, analysts, employees (front-end and/or back-end) to tell their stories.
Dr. Victoria Nwachukwu is a graduate student in the Department of Physiology, University of Manitoba. She graduated as a medical doctor from the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria; and prior to starting her program at the U of M.
Camila Chacon is a master’s student with the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology at the University of Manitoba. She completed her Bachelor of Science at McGill University with a major in Physiology.
Following a degree in Mathematics from Queen’s University, Joanne began her career in banking before taking the leap into the world of self-employment.
Dr. Melanie Martin is a Professor of Physics at University of Winnipeg, the Director of the Magnetic Resonance Microscopy Centre, and the co-Director of the University of Winnipeg Brain Imaging and Metabolic Research Lab.
Nisha Ajmani is a Bioinformatician and has been working on various genomics and bioinformatics projects with Fisheries and Oceans, University of Manitoba, and the University of Winnipeg.
