Job Title: Biomass Processing and Pyrolysis R&D Intern  

Term: 6-month term position

Pay: $26 - $29 per hour

Department/Group: Technology Development Group

Commitment: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Location: Headingley, Manitoba

Start Date: April 30, 2024

Carbon Lock Tech is a Manitoba-based cleantech startup focused on addressing climate change through carbon capture and sequestration. The company is currently developing systems and technologies for converting organic matter into a stable form of biocarbon that can be sequestered or “locked” into a range of valuable applications.

Description

Carbon Lock Tech is currently recruiting for the position of Biomass Processing and Pyrolysis R&D Intern.

Responsibilities include:

  • Operation and hands on usage of equipment that processes biomass for utilization in the pyrolytic process. May include handling, grinding, drying, pelletizing and modifications to existing equipment or control systems.
  • General investigation of instrumentation, technologies, and processes
  • Operation of the pyrolytic process for associated test campaigns
  • Data analysis, reporting and interpretation of test results to improve processing
  • Understanding of process condition outputs and what they are indicating about system operation
  • Other hands-on duties as assigned

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Graduated from a Canadian recognized mechanical, chemical or process engineering program, or similar
  • Registered as an EIT with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision, a self learner and be a team player
  • Strong data analysis, reporting and communication (written/verbal) required
  • Experience and comfort using tools and working with their hands.
  • Adhere to safety norms, and ability to wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and working on multiple different tasks
  • Experience in process or mechanical design and equipment operation
  • Understanding of biomass conversion to biochar process and/or chemistry (an asset)

Process

Applicants must reside in Manitoba and be willing and able to work in Headingley, Manitoba
This position is funded through ECO Canada. The applicant much meet funding requirements and be approved by the funding agency before employment can commence.
