Celebrating Global Biotech Week 2023 & Manitoba Life Sciences Strategy: Powering our Bioscience Future

WINNIPEG, Manitoba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#GBW2023--As part of the Global Biotech Week 2023 celebrations, Bioscience Association Manitoba (BAM) is not only celebrating the success stories within Manitoba's thriving $9.9 billion biotech industry but also taking a significant step towards securing its future. The Manitoba government in collaboration with Bioscience Association Manitoba launched the province’s first ever Life Sciences Strategy in June 2023. This strategy delves into 5 key pillars, highlighting Manitoba’s commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous economy.

Kim Kline, president for BAM, emphasized the significance of the Life Sciences Strategy, stating, "The Manitoba Life Sciences Strategy sets the stage for the growth and sustainability of our biotech industry. It encompasses a multifaceted approach to enhance our province's competitiveness on the global stage and includes investments in infrastructure, research and development, and talent development to ensure that the province continues to have the necessary resources and expertise to support the growth of this sector. This strategy is an important step to positioning Manitoba as a “have” province and take our place as a world leader in biosciences. I am so proud that we have this amazing opportunity to focus on leveraging Manitoba’s unique strengths and unprecedented growth.”

BAM's Global Biotech Week events include a GBW Coffee Connect at BAM's new office to promote networking among industry professionals and stakeholders. Also, during the week, several academic field trips for Grade 8-12 students are planned to local bioscience companies and facilities, providing hands-on experiences to nurture future talent and highlight the many opportunities for careers within the sector. BAM is hosting BioTalent Canada’s President and CEO, Rob Henderson to present on overcoming recruitment and retention challenges in the bioeconomy, followed by an industry networking event where BAM will unveil their new HR Support microsite as part of its commitment to advancing and supporting the sector.
