Breast Cancer Canada Invites Proposals for 2024 Precision Oncology Research Grants

Donations to Breast Cancer Canada directly translate to more time in the lab for Canadian research teams.

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Breast Cancer Canada (BCC), a national charity dedicated to saving lives through breast cancer research, is proud to announce the launch of their 2024 Annual Breast Cancer Research Grants, earmarking an impressive $500,000 in new Canadian funding for innovative breast cancer research in precision oncology. Scientists and researchers are invited to submit research proposals that will drive progress forward and improve future care for Canadians.

Expressing gratitude to donors, partners, and volunteers for their continued efforts throughout 2023, Kimberly Carson, CEO of Breast Cancer Canada, highlighted the impact of donations on research.“Donations to Breast Cancer Canada directly translate to more time for Canadian researchers inside their labs. Every dollar raised allows us to fund a greater number of projects from coast to coast. Collectively, we are contributing to improving and saving lives.”

Guided by Breast Cancer Canada’s Scientific Advisory Committee, the selection process places an emphasis on integrating the perspectives of breast cancer patients. Successful project teams securing funding are mandated to include a breast cancer patient advocate or a local breast cancer advocacy group in their research, ensuring a holistic and patient-centric approach.

"In light of funding challenges faced by Canadian breast cancer research groups, we are proud to champion new precision oncology projects that hold the promise of advancing progress for patients," shared Shaniah Leduc, Chair of Breast Cancer Canada. “Acknowledging the spectrum of over 50 breast cancer types, progress in precision oncology offers a more detailed diagnosis with customized treatments that are tailored to the specific breast cancer type and each patient.”

The selected projects will all focus on precision oncology, advancing traditional breast cancer screening and therapeutics into the era of personalized medicine. These initiatives will span four dimensions of precision oncology research: basic science, screening and detection, personalized treatment and diagnostic tests, and patient-reported outcomes. Notably, all projects are required to integrate an artificial intelligence (AI) component, showcasing a commitment to cutting-edge technology and advancements.

Canadian scientists and researchers are invited to submit research proposals by January 26, 2024. For application details, guidelines and procedures, please visit breastcancerprogress.ca/apply-for-grant-funding.
