Manitoba is faced with profound health and socio-economic issues directly related to diabetes. While all demographic groups in the province are affected, indigenous populations in the northern region have reported a significantly higher incidence of Type 2 diabetes when compared to the national average. In one study examining the incidence for Type 2 diabetes in children alone, the rates in Manitoba were nearly ten times higher than those in other provinces.
